      Background:

Destination Moon (original French title: Objectif Lune) and the sequel "Footsteps on the Moon" are famous comic stories by the Belgian artist Hergé from the series Tintin. The Tales of the Moon Journey by Tintin, Captain Haddock and Professor Bienlein was first published in 1953 (Moon Destination), four years before the launch of Sputnik 1 and even sixteen years before Neil Armstrong became the first person to actually set foot on the moon. So Hergé has anticipated the story and has already rendered many of the details with astonishing accuracy. The albums were heavily influenced by the 1950 film Endstation Mond by Robert A. Heinlein. The XFLR-6 experimental rocket designed by Professor Bienlein was inspired by the German World War II V2 rocket. The V-2 influenced many projects in the post-war period. As the most striking deviation from the original, Hergé draws only three fins instead of four.

The Adventures of Tintin (French: Les Aventures de Tintin) is a series of comic albums created by Belgian cartoonist Georges Remi (1907–1983), writing under the pen name Hergé. The series was one of the most popular European comics of the 20th century. By Hergé's 100th birthday in 2007, Tintin had been published in more than 70 languages and had a circulation of more than 200 million copies.
